Saudi Paper Manufacturing Co. (SPMC) plans to start a new production line by the end of this year with a capacity of 12,000 to 15,000 tons, said Abdullah Al-Gabeen, chief executive of the company.

The tissue producing company is upgrading and adding new production lines to gain a bigger market share and cut costs to be able to remain ahead of its Asian competitors, he added in an interview with CNBC Arabia television.

SPMC recently launched the commercial operation of an upgraded production line with an annual capacity of 18,000 tons per year, according to data compiled by Argaam.

The company in October 2013 signed a SAR 30 million contract with Italy’s Recard to rebuild and modify its production line.
