SEPC to shut down HDPE unit for maintenance in May

11/04/2011 Argaam

Saudi Ethylene and Polyethylene Co. (SEPC) is planning to halt production at its high-density polyethylene (HDPE) for a 15-day maintenance period beginning in mid-May, ICIS reported, citing an unnamed official.

SEPC had postponed scheduled maintenance in the first quarter of this year due to market conditions.

The facility has a production capacity of 400,000 tons per year.

SEPC, formed in 2006, is a joint venture owned by LyondellBasell Industries (25 percent). Tasnee Sahara Olefins Co., a joint stock company set up by National Industrialization Co. (Tasnee) and Sahara Petrochemical Company holds the remaining 75 percent stake.
