South Korea’s SK Gas Co. Ltd. has launched the propane dehydrogenation (PDH) plant of SK Advanced, a joint venture between the company and Saudi-listed Advanced Petrochemical Co.

The plant, located in Ulsan, produces propylene and is estimated to have cost $844 million, according to a statement carried by South Korean Yonhap News Agency.

The new facility is expected to export 75 percent of its output to China, which amounts to 600,000 tons per annum.

Advanced owns a 28.5 percent stake in the project, through its 95 percent-owned subsidiary Advanced Global Investment Co. (AGIC), according to the data available on Argaam.

The plant went through a trial run in March, and is expected to begin commercial operations within the second quarter of this year.
