Dawiyat Telecom, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Saudi Electricity Co., has launched the first phase of its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband services project in a number of cities in the Kingdom, chief executive Ahmed Sindi said in an official statement.
The cities include Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Al Madinah and Hafr Albatin.
The Saudi company has the second largest stake in the project, valued at SAR 3.2 billion, and will connect the broadband services to 744,500 premises, thanks to its 64,000 km fiber-optic network.
The FTTH broadband services will further enable subscribers to exchange data and content through high-speed internet.
“Dawiyat has already started the project’s excavation works in line with the National Transformation Program 2020, in a bid to boost digital services across the Kingdom,” Sindi said.
The company had earlier inked a four-year cooperation agreement with the Saudi Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT).
It also signed a letter of intent with the housing ministry to lay out smart infrastructure in its residential products and help deploy digital services.
