Tadawul-listed petrochemical firms’ aggregate net profit fell 5 percent year-on-year (YoY) to SAR 4.16 billion in Q1-2016, hurt by lower prices of raw materials and petrochemical products, data compiled by Argaam showed.

The sector figures were knocked down by major petrochemical producer Saudi Basic Industries Corp (SABIC). The company reported a 13 percent fall YoY in its Q1 net profit to SAR 3.4 billion, due to lower average selling prices and the SAR 725 million losses incurred by its steel segment.
Saudi Arabia Fertilizers Co. (Safco) was hit hard by lower product prices, posting a 52 percent YoY plunge in net profit.
Saudi International Petrochemical Co. (Sipchem) and Saudi Industrial Investment Group (SIIG) also saw their profit drop by 37 percent YoY and 30 percent YoY, respectively.
National Industrialization Co. (Tasnee) narrowed its first-quarter losses by 70 percent YoY to SAR 94.8 million.
Saudi Kayan Petrochemical Co. narrowed its net losses from SAR 591.6 million in the previous quarter to SAR 216.3 million in Q1, a decrease of 63.4 percent YoY, thanks to higher sales volumes, as well as lower feedstock costs and zakat provision.
