Saudi Arabian Mining Co. (Maaden) signed a 25-year term agreement with National Water Co. (NWC) to supply Maaden industrial complexes in Waad Al Shamal city with reconditioned water for industrial and mining purposes, with a capacity of 115,000 cubic meters per day (equivalent to about 1 billion cubic meters during the agreement term).

The company said in a bourse statement that the agreement includes supplying the complexes with quantities of treated water not less than 12 million cubic meters per year.

The deal includes transmission lines linking all the project components in four phases, from Sakaka to Arar and Tarif, and then to Waad Al Shamal city, with a total length of more than 437 kilometers, 17 tanks in five different locations with a capacity of 810,000 cubic meters per day, and a purification plant with a capacity of 115,000 cubic meters.

It also included monitoring and controlling the entire system, using the latest technical follow-up system SCADA, at a financial cost of more than SAR 1.6 billion.

The project comes as an extension of the efforts between two companies towards preserving environmental sustainability, through the implementation of a set of strategic and operational programs, in line with Vision 2030 aimed at achieving water sustainability, enhancing environmental safety and maximizing its benefits.

Maaden indicated that the technology of wastewater treatment in mining and industrial operations will achieve multi-dimensional economic and environmental benefits, in addition to providing benefits to the residents of the surrounding villages.
