Saudi airport passenger traffic surges 26% to 112M in 2023

Passenger traffic in Saudi Arabia reached a new record of about 112 million in 2023, growing 26% year-on-year (YoY), and more than 8% compared to 2019, confirming the recovery of the Kingdom's aviation sector from the fallout of the COVID pandemic.

 

According to the air traffic performance report issued by the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) today, the number of flights through the Kingdom’s airports last year reached about 815,000, an increase of 16% YoY.

 

Air cargo transportation at Saudi airports increased by more than 7%, reaching about 918,000 tons in 2023, compared to 854,000 tons in 2022.

King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah accounted for 32% of the total flights through Saudi airports in 2023, followed by King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh with 29%. The following table shows the distribution of flights to the Kingdom’s airports last year:
