Maaden starts trial ops at Waad Al Shamal ammonia plant

07/09/2016 Argaam

Saudi Arabian Mining Co. (Maaden) said it has started trial operations at the ammonia plant, which is part of the Waad Al Shamal Phosphate Co., after completing construction work.

The plant will be gradually ramped-up during the trial phase, and production is forecast to be variable, Maaden said in a statement to the Saudi bourse, adding that it should have an annual production capacity of 1.1 million tons.

Financial impact on earnings will be recognized after commercial production starts, the company added, without specifying a date.

US-based Mosaic Co., which owns a 25 percent stake in the Waad Al Shamal Phosphate Co., said the project was expected to go on stream in 2017, Argaam reported last September.

The Waad Al Shamal Phosphate project is 60 percent owned by Maaden and 15 percent owned by Saudi Basic Industries Corp (SABIC).
